A principled young lieutenant (Mark Frechette) volunteers for service on the Asiago Plateau during World War I, only to discover the division commander in charge (Alain Cuny) is a capricious sadist not adverse to executing his own soldiers for imaginary infractions, eventually sparking a bloody mutiny among the troops.
