Megan Whittlebee hates her life in Shadyville, Ontario. But what she detests even more is that her family is moving across the country, and she will be starting a new school in the middle of the year. Life couldn’t be more awful. But whether Megan likes it or not, her family soon arrives in Shansymoon, British Columbia—a town where peculiar things happen at every turn and tick of the clock.

In her strange new town, Megan befriends her cousin, Blaise, and the twins, Helena and Jared Mavilyn, who live down the street. After a hair-raising toboggan trip down the side of a snowy mountain, the four children find themselves in the magical valley of Wynterwyn.

Within this land of enchanted flowers, unearthly ice sculptures, and whispering fairies, Megan discovers the Charm Tree, and she is faced with the most difficult decision of her life: save her sick baby brother, Nicky, or preserve the future of her world.
