Adapted from Laurel Thatcher Ulrich's Pulitzer Prize-winning non-fiction book, this film is based on the diaries of Martha Ballard, a nurse who delivered a thousand babies between 1785 and 1812. The film consists of interviews with Ulrich and dramatized reenactments from the diaries.
