Punk Drunk Love: The Images of Mick Rock

"Over a hundred classic pictures from the archives of photographer Mick Rock are preserved in this portfolio DVD from Panoramica. Punk Drunk Love: The Images of Mick Rock isn't a documentary on the photographer and his work -- it simply presents a slideshow of his better known shots, which the viewer can choose to dissolve at sixty second, three minute or five minute intervals. (One can also shift images manually using the chapter control on your player's remote control). There's no narration or commentary -- indeed, there is no audio at all, with the disc apparently intended to provide a visual backdrop rather than serving as an item of central focus. The photos have been transferred to disc with care, and the color and contrast is quite impressive, though no information has been included regarding when or where they were shot (or even who is being shown in each image, though the majority are easily recognizable to most rock fans). A series of ""set up"" images are included so users can adjust their monitors to show the photos to their best advantage (many of which have been sized to fit 16x9 widescreen monitors, though they appear letterboxed con conventional televisions). Beyond a brief text biography of Rock and previews of other Panoramica photo DVD's, no bonus materials are included. Fans of classic rock photography will find Punk Drunk Love interesting, though those hoping to learn more about the photographer himself, his subjects or the milieu in which they traveled will be disappointed."
