John Loves Mary

In this wartime comedy, a soldier stationed in England is saved by a pal who asks a small favor in return--he wants him to marry his English girlfriend so she can travel to the U.S. (young ladies couldn't travel unescorted in those days). When they get to the States they can get a divorce and she will be free to be with her true love. The soldier agrees to the terms. Unfortunately, his real fiancee hears about it and misunderstands. She tells her daddy the senator. After the wedding, the soldier learns that his "pal" is already married and they are expecting. Just as all appears lost, it is revealed that the woman he married is already married to another who reported himself killed in order to get away from her. By the end, all misunderstandings are cleared up and the soldier is free to marry his true love--the senator's daughter.
