It's Tough to Be Famous

Douglas Fairbanks Jr. plays a navy hero who learns all too well the truth contained in the film's title. After rescuing his entire submarine crew, Fairbanks Jr. is lauded as the greatest thing since sliced bread by well-wishers and merchandisers alike. The glare of publicity robs Fairbanks Jr. of his privacy, and very nearly scuttles his romance with Mary Brian. All turns out happily for Fairbanks Jr..and his bride, which is (tragically) more than can be said for the inspiration behind It's Tough to Be Famous; Charles A. Lindbergh. The film's screenplay is based on The Goldfish Bowl, a short story by Mary McCall.
