"Jim Brown plays a take-no-prisoners Green Beret turned Mafia buster named Slaughter in these two action-packed blaxploitation efforts, issued in a two-for-one ""Soul Cinema Double Feature"" package from MGM. Both Slaughter and Slaughter's Big Rip-Off have been given widescreen transfers to disc in their original theatrical aspect ratios of 2.35:1, letterboxed on conventional televisions and enhanced for anamorphic play on 16:9 monitors. The source prints are clean beyond slight imperfection here and there, and the transfers are colorful and full-bodied, preserving the original look of the movies while extracting as much detail as possible. The audio for both films has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo, retaining the original monophonic mixes, and the quality is as good as the source materials permit. The dialogue for both films is in English, with alternate dubbed soundtracks in French and optional subtitles in French and Spanish. The only bonus materials included here are original trailers for each feature. Slaughter and Slaughter's Big Rip-Off were originally released on DVD in 2001, and the versions that appear in this set are identical to the earlier editions, though at a two-for-one price they're a good value for fans of 1970's genre filmmaking."
