Romeo and Juliet is restaged in New York City in this musical film. The story focuses on two rival street gangs: the Jets, comprised of second-generation American teens, and the Sharks, consisting of Puerto Rican immigrants. When a Jet falls in love with the rival leader's sister, tragedy ensues.
