"This low-budget road picture, which became a surprise smash on the drive-in circuit in 1974, has been given a bare-bones DVD release in this edition from Warner Home Video. While Anchor Bay's out-of-print version of Macon County Line (released in 2000) included a commentary from director Richard Compton and a short documentary on the making of the movie, neither have been carried over for the Warner edition. For this version, Macon County Line has been given a widescreen transfer in the aspect ratio of 1.85:1, letterboxed on convention televisions and enhanced for 16x9 play on widescreen monitors. The transfer looks good enough -- the muddy night sequences and slightly grainy image attests to the picture's no-frills production, though this is about as good as the film is ever likely to look, and the focus is crisp throughout. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Mono, and like the visuals it's as strong as the film's low budget would permit. The dialogue is in English, with optional subtitles in English and French. No bonus materials have been included on the Warner disc -- no trailers, no photos, not even a menu for the nine chapter stops (down from twenty on the Anchor Bay release). This is an unusually skimpy release from a major label, and while the presentation of the movie itself is good enough, anyone who's a serious fan of Macon County Line would be happier with the previous DVD edition over this one."
