He travels to Kibworth, Leicestershire, England, which actually consists of an amalgamation of three villages from antiquity. The film traces the community as it experienced and responded to such events as the Black Death, the Civil War and the Industrial Revolution, and ultimately uses Kibworth as an analogue to the social evolution of England per se. Throughout, Wood pulls from such elements as science, archaeology and the commentaries and insights of current Kibworth residents."
