A Far Away Place, Bear River is the first of three volumes in a panoramic Canadian memoir written by Mary Marvin McLeod (1920-2003). Bear River takes place in a small farming community in Nova Scotia during the 1920s and covers the life and death of Maple Grove farm. The second volume takes place in the small town of Kentville, Nova Scotia during the 1930s. Ottawa covers the war years and ends the trilogy in 1948.
