In this American production from Max Ophuls, Joan Fontaine stars as Lisa, a woman who falls for concert pianist Stefan (Louis Jourdan), who is about to embark on a tour. He promises to come back for her, but doesn't, forcing Lisa to marry another man when she discovers that she's carrying Stefan's baby.
