Classic Archive: Itzhak Perlman - Elgar, Prokofiev & Saint-Saens

This classical music release - one in a series of issues that feature compilations of rare archival performances by classical musicians - consists of interpretations by violinist Itzhak Perlman broadcast on the BBC in the early 1970s and early 1980s. The three selections include: a performance done for the BBC Symphony Orchestra's 50th Anniversary Concert, on October 22, 1980, in which Perlman interprets Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major, Op. 19; a performance mounted and filmed at the Royal Albert Hall on August 9, 1981 for the BBC Sunday Prom, that witnesses Perlman interpreting Elgar's Violin Concerto in B Minor, Op. 61; and a performance shot at the London Coliseum Theatre on October 25, 1970 and broadcast on the BBC the following year, where Perlman interprets Saint-Sa?ns's Introduction et Rondo capriccioso, Op. 28.
