Agents of the Federation of Fossil Fuel Suppliers discover Meira's presence in Paris, where she studies her father's work. She escapes to the south where she joins the crew of a yacht that turns out to be much more than a rich man's pleasure craft. In the weeks that follow she manipulates relationships to subtly add the Ancient's knowledge to that of the modern engineers.
