Taiyuan, which is the capital of Shanxi Province, boasts a history spanning over 2,500 years and is at the center of Shanxi's politics, economy and culture. Taiyuan is located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River in North China with hills to the west, north and east. Taiyuan is rich in mineral resources, the majority of which are coal, iron and gypsum.
