Baoji is located in the southwestern part of Shaanxi Province and has a land area of 18,175 sq km. It had a population of 3.76 million as of the end of 2008. It has mountains in the south, west and north occupying about 83% of the land. The remaining area is plains, with the Wei River cutting through the middle.
