A young-American relies on others when making important decisions. Before WW2, he studies German, during the war, he interrogates German POWs. He agrees to help Partisans in Yugoslavia by impersonating a German officer. Things goes wrong, and he finds himself inside Nazi Germany, an officer, but constantly in fear of discovery. Escape plans are complicated when he falls in love with a war widow.
