A six-year-old boy runs away with the circus when his Mum throws him out of their 1890s London slum apartment while she services clients. Taken in by a new Mum, the boy meets the circus owners challenge to become some sort of freak to earn his keep; and along the way, he falls for Caitlin, the lion tamers daughter. He is forced to run again to avoid being sent back to his mother.
