Introduction
The main purpose of this book is to help one trace New England ancestors back to British royalty or nobility if the records exist. The primary question we address (and hopefully answer) in this book is as follows: How can one find, assemble, and properly organize the information one needs to trace and connect New England ancestors to British royal or noble ancestors?
The preceding question is particularly important because thousands of persons living in the United States today are direct descendants of British royalty or nobility. Many of these persons have no knowledge whatever of their royal or noble ancestry. In many cases the lack of records makes one’s ancestry impossible to trace—if this is the case, a search of the resources mentioned in this book should help one make this determination. In many other cases, however, there is a wealth of records, genealogies, CD-ROMs, books, and other resources which one can use to trace one’s ancestral line back to noble and perhaps royal ancestors; in this book, I have tried to demonstrate how to accomplish this with New England ancestors. The same method can often be used to trace other ancestors by utilizing similar sources of information.
