Beaten By The Shtick

Alexandra Daye Bedd leads Johnny Knight into a very popular two-person radio show. But Johnny is prone to little mistakes that bring him criticism from the boss and the fear of loosing the love of his life. He begins searching for a new shtick. He is not sure what the shtick is, but he’ll know it when he finds it and it will make him sound so good on the air, his errors will be invisible. Despite his efforts, hours of tortuous practice and diligent searching, he cannot find the new Johnny Knight. He begins blaming coworkers and friends for his inability to discover his shtick, and eventually Alexandra becomes the target of his failure. Alexandra, having all of Johnny’s cruelty she can handle, finally lets go of her life of luxury and leaves her penthouse suite to return to her hometown for a fresh start without Johnny. It isn’t her plan to once again live in her parent’s house, but her mother talks her into doing just that. Alexandra takes the first step toward depression. Johnny, forced to do the show solo, finds his ratings in a downward spiral and his boss turning up the heat. In a drunken moment of extreme despair, Johnny agrees to marry Allison Noone Nichts, the biggest mistake he could make. At the bottom of his career, Johnny is handed the chance to lead a new show. Riding on the abilities of four costars, the show rises to the top of the ratings. The day before Johnny and his ‘Gang’ are to debut on the number one radio station in Philadelphia, Allison puts her plan to destroy Johnny into play.
