A bitter Congressional primary election between and iconic six-term incumbent and a charismatic television evangelist turns brutal when an aid to each of the candidates is murdered. One of the victims is journalist Jake Ward's ex-wife. Despite repeated admonitions from investigators and the counsel of his friends, Jake vows to find his ex-wife's murderer. His search leads him into a dark world of political blackmail...and resurrects an unwanted phantom from his own past.
