The Visit

It is a common belief that one can never truly return home. What we seek when we do try is often a reminder, an assurance, of the previous existence of a simpler time in our life. But for many, this time never existed. "The Visit" is a story of a young, lesbian,Indo-Caribbean woman who returns to her native island, Trinidad, to pay a visit to her parents. The story seeks to answer the question that assails the mind and heart of everyone who has ever left their homeland to escape the inevitable unhappiness they see for themselves if they are to stay - "Is it possible to be happy in a place you love but to which you don't peacefully belong?"
