I hope, by writing this book, I am able to lighten your burden.
Alzheimer's disease is a family tragedy. The disease is catastrophic for the patient and anyone else his or her life touches. It is one of the most difficult of all illnesses to understand because you can't see it, yet you witness its devastating effects.
Families often are overwhelmed by the ravages of Alzheimer's disease, which affects not only the patient but all significant others. The information within these pages is intended to help make the lives of those affected by Alzheimer's disease easier, in spite of the terrible situation they deal with daily.
The book is written for people who are not in the medical profession. I have attempted to simplify as much as possible and have stayed away from medical terminology, making the content as conversational as possible.
The thoughts, observations and opinions throughout are mine, accumulated over years of caretaking for family, friends and patients.
I do not deal with cause, effect or treatment of Alzheimer's disease from a primarily medical point of view. Rather, it is my intent to deal with the results of the disease from the caregiver's point of view, in order to assist in the daily care of the patient.
My heart goes out to anyone caught in the web of Alzheimer's disease. If what I have written helps you even a little bit, then this book is successful.
