A Planet Called Nod

The main character, Doreteo Sanchez, is a wagehog, working on a ship when he is volunteered by the captain to investigate ancient ruins on a planet where a company scientist is missing. After completing the mission in a somewhat unconventional way, he is arrested and sent to a corporate prison on a planet called Nod, where he makes friends and enemies and finds a way to escape!
