It wasn't the sort of night you'd expect a murder, not that you ever expect a murder in Charleston, S.C. The southern aristocracy normally channels its more violent instincts through a subtle blend of innuendo and back-stabbing. But when that blend goes suddenly wrong, death can come quickly.
Murder is certainly the last thing on the mind of Brent Maxwell, a college student working his way through various adolescent dawnings - life, work, friendships, family, and, of course, women. Summer nights are summer nights and the gentle, breezy Charleston evenings are more beguiling than most. In fact, you might think of this beautiful southern city as a perfect place for the rites of youthful passage. And you’d be right, except there are jokers in Brent’s deck – greed, assault, betrayal.
