This story is placed in Missouri, Oklahoma and Arizona at the turn of the Century from 1883 to 1901.
The main part of the story takes place in 1898, while the western portion of Oklahoma was still called
the Oklahoma Territory and was being settled by the white man. The story also takes place in the
northeastern part of the Indian Territory that belonged to the Cherokee Nation. It was not until November
16,1907 that the twin territories were merged and Oklahoma became the forty-sixth state
of the Union. The woman in the picture (title) has a gun in her right hand. She has to protect herself.
