How Not To Buy A Rubber In 1982

This short excerpt is from Chapter 10 of my novel Last Chance Of A Crazy Virgin. John Elvin is with another virgin, Lori Anderson, and they are on the way to his house to get money for a hotel room. She doesn't know he is having hallucinations where his penis talks to him in his mind, tormenting him because he is still a virgin at age 24. John answers his penis at times, which can cause problems. This story is about buying what they used to call a rubber before they were called condoms. In 1982, the last year of the age of innocence before HIV changed the world, rubbers were not very popular and were often hard to find on short notice.
