Conjure Man

Authors Note - one dreary Sunday morning over coffee, the Conjure Man came into my life. The newspaper article spoke of the campfire lore of "Twin Dwarves" and the Conjure Man" whose return, it alerted, was imminent. All so off-hand and hohum it could have been a recipe for Hoppin' John. Intrigue led to research in Frogmore, South Carolina. Here was a world of 'root doctors', most of them flim-flam artists but a few true practitioners like the Fat Man and Doctor Bone. And behind it all, a legend with many names - 'Conjure Man', 'Shadowmancer', 'Smoke that Walks'. His was a reign cut short by the sheer audacity of a lesser foe. And his was a living promise of payback.
For some, the lore and legend is reality.
For those who scoff, disbelief is a poor shield indeed.
