From Here to Bangkok: How Bangkok Opened My Heart and Broke It

Binational couples face many challenges from culture, geography, language, and cuisine. Same-sex binational couples face all of those challenges along with a cruelly divisive American immigration policy. From Here to Bangkok presents a deeply personal account of the struggle of living as a same-sex binational couple. It begins immediately before the author made his first trip to Thailand, where he met his romantic companion for the first time. He describes his sensations of being poured into a hot culture, brimming with heat, romance, spicy food, and a mutual curiosity. From there, it weaves back and forth, from Thailand to America in a quest to find a workable solution to the problem of having divided lives and divided hearts. The perspective can be described as a balanced marriage between art and science. Philosophy, in the sense of how we conduct our lives, intersects the narrative in several sections, along with commentaries relating to the political atmosphere that has created a need for stories such as this.
