Sheriff Stringbean Hooper's job description for being sheriff is relaxing with his feet on his desk while he watches Sully Town, Montana from the window as the citizens ride by. All that changes when the doctor's wife disappears. Hooper finds himself in the middle of a crime investigation, bushwhacked, threatened and in the middle of a family feud between his boss, the missing woman's father cattle baron Mac Sullivan and her husband Doctor Strummer. Hoopers only backups are a nervous, pig farmer deputy Whiskers Parker and a woman rancher, Theodosia Sheffield set on marrying him. Hooper finds himself between a rock and a hard place while he's fighting for his life and his bachelorhood as he tries to solve the mysterious disappearance of Mary Alice Strummer.
