The Song of Hiawatha by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

THE SONG OF HIAWATHA is loosely based on the legends and stories of many North American Indian peoples, but especially those of the Ojibwe Indians of northern Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. In a broad sense, this epic work touches on the forces of Manifest Destiny, cultural assimilation, and religious conversion among the tribes of the upper Midwest.
