Excerpt:
Vonne patted Luke on the shoulder, and they continued on to the Temple. After taking off their shoes, they entered a huge structure that seemed amazingly peaceful. Although the rest of Heaven was bustling with activity, there was nothing but tranquility within this enormous structure. Vonne preceded Luke as he waited outside a small door.
"You may go in now," said Vonne holding the door for him.
"You're not coming with me?"
"Sorry, this is something you have to do on your own."
He understood and took a deep breath before entering. Luke's eyes opened wide as he found himself in a huge room that was deceptive by the small door. A Light towered over his head and seemed to surround him but not surround him. He didn't know why but he automatically dropped to one knee, and his long blonde hair fell in front of him. A gentle wind blew his hair to the back as he looked up at the Light. His eyes shown an ocean blue in the Light.
"Hello, Luke, my son."
Luke tried to speak, but he couldn't find any words to utter.
"There is no need to speak. I can read your heart. All your life you've known of me, but believed in me not. And now you kneel before me choosing to believe what your eyes have shown you, but all that matters is what your heart is telling you now."
Luke began to tremble with fear.
"Why do you show me more fear than your former employer? You kneel before me and you are well while the Devil plots your destruction. What I want to know can't be answered by fear, but out of the love in your heart. Luke, do you love me?"
Luke was calmed by the Lord's words and the tranquility of the room. He opened both his mind and his heart and answered, "Yes, Lord."
"And do you wish to follow me and serve me unconditionally for eternity."
"Yes, my Lord."
Silence fell over the room. Luke waited though he wasn't sure what he was waiting for until he felt his blood literally began to boil in his veins, and he felt something moving threw his body.
"Demon," began the Lord, "Flee from my servant."
Luke opened his mouth and heard a scream, but he was sure that it was not coming from him. A moment later, something came flying from his mouth. It flew around the room looking disoriented until it finally and swiftly vanished through the floorboards, and the room was silent again.
"Luke, My son. You may now go and began your work for the Lord."
Luke stood a new man. The Light before him vanished, and he was left alone in a now small room. He heard the door behind him open, and he turned to see Vonne waiting for him. He ran his hands through his hair, and realized that it was shorter than when he had come in. It had been cut to regulation length, and he looked down at himself noticing that he was donning a new uniform. One with a Dove on each shoulder instead of three 6's. As he exited the room, he reached in his back pocket and pulled out his new badge.
"The Lord said it was okay to start you off with a rank of seven," said Vonne closing the door.
"That's pretty high."
"Well, you are coming with a little bit of experience. Though misguided, it's still experience."
When they reached the outside of the structure, Luke found that his shoes had disappeared, and that the uniform that he had been wearing was now replaced with regular clothes.
"Where'd everything go?" he asked.
"Well, you can't wear those Hell Cop issued boots anymore. We'll get you some shoes on the way back to Michael's room. And as for your uniform, even though you may not be able to see it, never forget that it's always there, and you always have it on."
