Bat Masterson revisits the West and discovers it's no longer wild and he's not welcome.
This novel won a Spur Award from Western Writers of America. It occurs early in the 20th century when the old frontier lawman is a sports editor in New York City. His friends Louella Parsons and Damon Runyon inspire him to return to the west, along with his wife Emma, for a nostalgic look at his own past. But the settled West isn't the one he remembers, and he finds himself facing a new world, not at all friendly to an old free-wheeling lawman. He eventually lands in Los Angeles, visits his cranky friend Wyatt Earp, and visits a movie set. He and Emma are only too glad to escape the new West, and return to civilization.
