Practicing law in 1950's Chicago was unlike the law practice today. Foremost it was fun and adventuresome, and idealistic. A young lawyer breaking in then, especially in Boys Court, could hardly fend off becoming humanistic. This story details the efforts of Gordon Eilo, a young Harvard lawyer, to deal with an assigned criminal case in which a guy in the Rookery confessed to murdering his wife. There was a defense, however, and Gordon asks his paralegal law student, Bebe, "What is it? That she got him down and was sucking his blood with these two elongated canines, and he got in a lucky swing with a stake? The truth is almost as surprising, and entertaining.
