If Jesus Could Not Save Himself, How Would He Save Me? is a story of preteen Mexican American boy who is introduced to Protestantism by White neighbors who had converted from Catholicism and recounts the 7 years he spends by attending youth ministry, teenage Christian education, prayer sessions and Sunday services throughout the Reagan Years.

In the process he finds a family only to realize later that as he aged American societal and racial factors would blend itself into the narrative and force him to chose paths that confronted him.
