Young's Scouts: A Complete History

Young’s Scouts routed superior enemy forces time and again early in the Philippine-American War (1899-1902). The unit was originally comprised of just 25 men, and they served together for less than a month, but their exploits captured the imagination and admiration of soldier and civilian alike. Twelve received the Medal of Honor for exceptional valor on the battlefield. Six others received a Certificate of Merit for extraordinary gallantry in the presence of the enemy. No other unit garnered such honors.
