Soliloquies of My Old Man and his Book

"A CHILD'S HISTORY OF ENGLAND" was published anonymously in England in the late 1800's, and was eventually attributed to Charles Dickens. It was the first time his viewpoints about society and the history of the realm were delivered without the cover of fiction. Great stuff! I came across it and was moved to embrace it in a short story of my own, without realizing who had authored the book. It is particularly interesting in the discussion of the role of gentlemen and amateurs in the development of human knowledge, scientific and otherwise. A good was to start thinking about modern society, and understanding the significance of the British Crown.
