His father murdered, a young man facing poverty joins forces with a pair of thieves in order to support his family. Forced to compromise the principles instilled in him by his late father, he struggles to find justification for his criminal activities. Working the streets of 18th Century London, his new life in the underworld is one of continual danger. Betrayed by one of the associates in his small circle, he is arrested and convicted. Confined in the deplorable Newgate prison, he is sentenced to death and must await his appointment with the hangman.

With the help of his underworld friends, he manages to escape the noose and stows away in the hold of a warship bound for America. As he flees London, he has in his possession an artifact that had been kept in hiding by his late father. The artifact, he is told, contains the key to unlock innate powers rumored to have been possessed by the ancient sage, Hermes Trismegistus.

Now, en route to the rebellious American Colonies, Robert Elkins, a.k.a. John Mason, must struggle to cope with the brutality of life at sea while learning to use the knowledge of the artifact he now refers to as the Mason Key.

The Mason Key – Volume One is the first in what is to be a series of thrilling adventures that will allow readers to vicariously experience one young man’s turbulent life in the 18th Century.

Written in first person narrative, this story will draw audiences interested in life in the 1700s, tall ships, ancient tenets and adventures that begin and end with “seat of the pants” excitement. Begin the journey by reading the first 5,000 words of this polished and publishable novel.
