The Island of Doctor Moreau

This classic tale by H. G. Wells (1896) still serves as a warning to humanity about the dangers of scientific curiosity for its own sake, detached from ethics, morality, and common decency. Written in the days when animals were being cut to pieces while still alive for scientific inquiry- known as vivisection- it foreshadowed a day when humans- only animals, themselves, you see- would also be experimented on while they were still alive. The Nazi doctors revealed that Dr. Moreau is more than a fictional character. Dr. Moreau is a reminder of what happens when humans jettison their own humanity in the quest for knowledge.
