The United States Government is developing a physical enhancement serum that will revolutionize modern warfare. Every test subject given the serum has suffered violent side effects and eventually lost their lives. After decades of study, the drug is nearing completion. A final test subject is needed.

Mark Thompson, a burned out heroin addict from the small town of Nodyroc, Iowa, is chosen. Nodyroc is a small and desolate little Midwestern town, and for Mark, it seems there is no chance of escape from his loneliness. He dreams of living the clean life and starting fresh in a new place, somewhere he can forget. During the years of his abuse, the memories of his early life have disappeared, leaving him endlessly searching for his identity. No family, no friends, and living off of the grid, Mark Thompson seems like the perfect candidate.

During a drug deal gone awry, Mark Thompson is given the choice he always dreamed of in the most unlikely place. Either he faces life in prison for crimes he did not commit, or agrees to test the powerfully dangerous enhancement serum. If he survives, he will be granted his freedom. Mark agrees to the testing and per the agreement, is given a new life. However, this new existence begins to challenge his sense of normality and shatter the very fabric of reality. Strange and unnatural side effects plague him. Haunting dreams and memories of his shattered past begin returning. Mark Thompson begins to see answers calling out from the darkness, leading him on a path from which there may be no escape.
