Sorrowfully, she discovers there is no getting out of this camp. She spends the first few days trying to escape, which brings her face to face with a death crisis. This incident places a self-imposed curfew on her efforts to escape, and from then on she makes an effort to blend in with the primitive culture.
It becomes evident to the teacher the answer she seeks, originated from two separate incidents. Each one separated by a hundred years, each of them slowly destroying her life.
