Three College friends, Stephen, Mac Kayla, and Michael. Two of which were Michigan State’s best football players. One, engaged to Mac Kayla, the other in love with her. Due to their friendship, Michael O'Connors kept his feelings for her to himself.
After an accident during scrimmages, their world changed, when one rainy day during a Football Banquet, Mac Kayla and Stephen argued, causing her to run out in an intoxicated state. Seeing this, Michael became worried, and finds Stephen drunk after learning from his doctor he couldn’t have children after the accident. Going after her himself, Michael finds her along the side of the road with a flat tire, and soaked to the bone. He has to get her out of the rain, and takes her to a cabin belonging to the team. Thinking it was Stephen, in her state of mind, she begs him for forgiveness, when it wasn’t her who needed forgiving.
Months later, Stephen and Mac Kayla marry and have twins, but not before an ugly fight that sends Michael away, while being made to carry their secret, his and Stephens, about that night, and the doctors findings, which Michael blames himself for. Even after Stephen’s death, three years later, Michael still keeps their secret.
