Nathan Faraday and his wife have often served as a private intelligence service for the White House. Nathan has lost his faith in God, and when the President of the United States gives them the assignment of protecting an African spiritual leader, he reluctantly accepts. When he and his wife travel to Zanzibar to protect Karnala Rohana, Nathan’s wife is killed saving Rohana’s life from an assassin’s bullet.
The man responsible for the murder is psychotic Yuri Volchak, a former KGB colonel and Shakespearean actor. Volchak, who recently escaped from a Russian insane asylum, lives in a shadowy world of schizophrenia. The mad Russian has stolen a portable nuclear bomb, and when his first assassination attempt fails, decides to kill Rohana by detonating the bomb at midnight on New Year’s Eve, 1999 at a religious conference.
Nathan discovers Volchak’s identity and vows vengeance for his wife’s murder. How can Nathan prevent Volchak from killing Rohana and at least a million people? The climax rushes to a breath-taking, unexpected finale.
