Anomie is a raw and gritty social commentary about a “man” who awakes to a dystopian. The “man” James is a professor of Thanatology, the study of human death, who believes he was born at the wrong time and is determined to escape the existential vacuum his life has become.
He decides that if he can’t find a reason to live by his 33rd birthday he will kill himself, or rather pay someone to kill him. On his 33rd birthday he is abducted and killed by another man who is trying to suppress technology created by James that produces oil from garbage. During the murder, the hit man James hires kills James’ murder and sets the scene for a conspiracy plot.
James awakes in a hospital blind, immobile and worst of all accused of a disturbing act of terrorism that have left a city covered in sludge of blood and mutilated animal parts. The hospital room is his asylum from the law and half the city who is trying to kill him for his crimes.
The doctors try to force James to piece together the events leading up to the moment, when a voluptuous nurse with an affection for narcotics reveals that a secret sect has protected his body for centuries until the time was right for him to save the human race. Now he is the only “man” with the genetics to save humanity from a prion plague that causes the inflected to commit horrible acts of suicide.
James is reluctant to help because he believes humans don’t have the will to power to overcome their bestial nature and like all other species are destined for extinction. James with the help of his nurse escapes his asylum to make his decision about the future of mankind.
