A year after moving to Tulsa, Ella Roberts still doesn’t have the one thing her husband promised her before they left San Francisco: a baby. What she has is a bossy three-year-old daughter, a neighborhood full of uptight busybodies who all think she’s a hippie and an aging husband who refuses to give up the Trojans.
Fed up with her lonely suburban purgatory, Ella drags herself out of the McMansion and into the local pool, where she hopes to make friends with other moms, but instead meets Nick Rossi, a beefy single dad who quickly makes it clear that he’s a willing and capable sperm donor.
Determined to keep her own family together, Ella resists Nick’s charms, even the siren call of the delicious mole sitting atop the lowest can of his six-pack abs. But when Ella learns about her husband’s secret vasectomy, her resistance wavers and she begins an affair that forces her to realize that family can’t be defined by the number of faces at the dinner table.
