Blood of the Vampire is a fast-paced paranormal romance sent in the present day.

Tristan regarded her in her hysteria for a moment before his expression softened. The next thing Aeryn knew, she was cradled in his arms, yet again, her body wracked in shuddering sobs. His cheek rested against her head as he held her tightly against him. His hand gently stroked over her hair, down to her shoulder and over the length of her arm and for once, he felt warm. The feel of his feathery touch raised goose bumps over her and made every nerve ending charge with need.

Aeryn curled her arm tight around his neck and raised her chin, pressing her face into the base of his throat. She could feel the dampness her tears were making on his tee shirt. He held her tighter and kissed the top of her head. For all the heard sternness he'd displayed with her on her escape attempts, this was a complete turn around. No longer did it seem he was a cold-blooded, demon, blood-sucker that he was. Somewhere in that entire macho exterior, there was a man with a kind and gentle heart. One who was able to show compassion and it was calming.

She pulled herself back and looked into his eyes. They weren't cold and unfeeling. They were filled with warmth and understanding. His eyes...no, his whole face was flawlessly beautiful. This was the face not of a demon at all and his full lips lowered to brush ever-so-gently over her parted lips.

Aeryn wasn't dead. She was in heaven and greedily climbing into him wanting more. His arms circled her waist and he pulled her onto his lap, taking her mouth deeper and deeper with his tongue. His hands slid under her shirt and burned a trail up her back as she curled her legs and arms around him. Oh, god. It had been way too long. Her hips ground into his lap feeling the thick hardness that screamed to be set free. A deep moan emanated from her throat and suddenly she felt his body tense and that what she knew had to be a great amount of effort, Tristan withdrew his arms from around her and all but flung her back on the bed, away from him with a tormented growl of what she could only assume was frustration.

Aeryn could see the pained look in his eyes even before he turned away and forced himself off the bed and onto the chair. "What's wrong?" She struggled to regain control of her own senses. "Did I do something wrong?" She started toward him and he raised his hand to indicate that she should not come any closer.

"No," he mumbled something under his breath in a language shed never heard before. "It's not you at all. I just this... just it cant happen like this. I cannot allow it. For you or for myself. Id be taking advantage of your vulnerability. It wouldn't be fair to you." He stood and moved to the doorway without looking back. "Ill return when I'm better able to control myself."
