This little e-book is a collection of some of Kenn Amdahl's blogs from 2010 and early 2011. In print form, it would be about 160 pages. It contains samples from all Kenn's published books, plus a few unpublished ones. There's some humor, some poetry, some political ranting (Kenn leans left, if that matters to you) observations about converting books into E-books, some chatter about self publishing and writing and book promotion. It includes a couple of book reviews, reactions to a few movies, an essay about the discovery of penicillin, his experience raising jackfruit trees in a terrarium, and why Americans are afraid of iodine. The blogs average about two pages each. This is the ideal book for anyone with a short attention span.
In Kenn's words:
"The first blog I really enjoyed was by the Swedish diplomat Dag Hammarskjold. I was just a kid; no one owned a computer, the Internet hadn't been invented. So Dag published his blog in a book called "Markings." It contained page after page of short observations, some no more than a sentence, others lasting several paragraphs. What a weird idea, I thought, but I liked it. He was about fifty years ahead of his time.
"Much later, I became a fan of E.B. White. A book of his essays is often my first choice for airplane reading. I admire that he, like Steinbeck, retains his sense of humor and conversational style even when discussing difficult or painful subjects. Maybe someday I'll try to do that, too.
"For the last twenty years, I've made my living by writing books and self publishing them. My book "There Are No Electrons: Electronics for Earthlings" has sold nearly 100,000 copies. I've included one of its most "famous" chapters in this collection, plus sections from"The Land of Debris and the Home of Alfredo," "Jumper and the Bones" "Joy Writing: Discover and Develop Your Creative Voice" "Algebra Unplugged" and "Calculus for Cats." No computational skills required. I've also thrown in a chapter from the book I'm working on now, "Kenn Versus the Pond Scum." as well as some tidbits from "The Other Side of God." If you don't know what you want to read, this could be the little book you're looking for. Clearly, I don't know what I want to write.
