Peter is a Forest Finn, living in Värmland Province, Sweden. Although the Forest Finns arrived in Sweden a couple of centuries ago, they still speak Finnish. As most Forest Finns, Peter is also very fluent in Swedish.
In very crowded Värmland, where the opportunites don't exist for owning land or making an adequate living, Peter follows his older brother's path, and he goes to America.
Again the outsider, the immigrant, Peter faces the challenges of building a life for himself and does well. The challenges that Peter finds most difficult are those within him, challenges that he may or may not be able to handle.
