The Sound of Spirit, Loyd Peck is a tried and true shepherd of the Alaskan Spirit. He discovered the north country in 1961, as a lad from Seattle, into the freshly minted 49th state of the union. If Alaska wasn't awesome enough, three years later Loyd personally witnessed the second mightiest earthquake ever recorded on planet Earth, the equivalent of 300 million tons of T.N.T. Loyd miraculously escaped unscathed in the epicenter of destructing in Anchorage, with his house teetering over a 40 foot chasm in the crust. And that was only the beginning...
Loyd knows labor in the Far North. Sweat in a salmon cannery. Labor from extinguishing wildfires throughout Alaska's interior in the mid-1970's. Loyd is bent, but not broken.
His Spirit is special. He performed 20 years of volunteer community service, boosting mentally challenged Alaskans with his tales. He put so much of himself into his work, he won Anchorage's Volunteer of the Year Award in 2006. Loyd is disabled. But his Spirit of Alaskan adventure thrives in the hearts of his cultural co-workers and recovering Alaskans. Here is his authentic story.
