The past twenty five years of my life have been filled with the Oprah Winfrey show. I was a teenager when the show started. I will be married fifteen years tomorrow to my husband David and in a few short weeks, June 8th, I will celebrate my fortieth birthday. I have grown up with Oprah, literally and figuratively. I am the mother of Makenna, my twenty year old stepdaughter, Lauren Rose, fourteen, and Lucas David, seven. I listened intently to the words of love, appreciation and wisdom that Oprah said in her farewell show. I am grateful as a human being to have had the opportunity to be touched by Oprah. As a writer, I couldn’t help but jot down notes during the hour long show. It was serendipitous to hear her beliefs and her intention; it has been ingrained in my spirit.
Here is some of what I have learned from Oprah.
For every action there is an equal reaction.
“Everything you’ve done to me, been done to you.” (Quote from the Color Purple)
Love is the most powerful energy and if you have the best of intentions, the love that you give comes back to you in an awesome way.
“Don’t wait for someone to fix you, change you or complete you (sorry Jerry McGuire Movie, not true). You get free.-Oprah
Oprah has had over 30,000 guests on her show in a 25 year period of time, she noticed that even the bullies feel a sense of unworthiness.
Oprah has observed that as humans all of us have a common desire to be seen, heard, and understood. With the bottom line of our existence being, “is what I say, does this mean anything to you?”
